The Mirror and the Mess: Why I'm writing this
Let's love Art, life with ADHD, and the Beautiful Chaos of Creativity.
I’ve always been drawn to both structure and chaos. My paintings hover between control and spontaneity, between the figure and abstraction, between what is seen and what is felt. That in-between space—the tension of trying to shape something while also allowing it to emerge on it’s own—is the same space I find myself in when it comes to managing my life with inattentive ADHD.
That’s why I’m starting The Mirror Canvas.
This is a place where I’ll be reflecting on the creative process in all its unfiltered, tangled, and sometimes frustrating glory. It’s about the experiments, the creative blocks, the tools that work, and those who don’t. It’s also about the reality of making art while focus feels slippery, when perfectionism and ADHD paralysis creep in, and when the final image we share with the world almost never shows the struggle beneath it.
Instagram is the polished version. The Mirror Canvas is what’s behind it—the sketchbooks full of half-formed ideas and the drawings that don’t work, the materials that I bought but never used, the mistakes, and the breakthroughs. It’s about learning to work with the mess instead of against it.
Writing has always been a part of my creative process, just like drawing and painting. There’s something about putting pen to paper—the scratch of ink, the weight of a journal—that helps me untangle my thoughts. Notebooks and journals have given me hope while buying them, courage while writing in them and insights while re-reading them. Now I want to share those thoughts with you, accompanying my visual work.
I hope this space can be a reflection not just of my journey, but of yours, too. Whether you’re an artist, someone who struggles with creative block, or just someone who loves peeking behind the curtain of the creative process, I’d love to have you here.
Let’s embrace this mess together.
